Courtney Lawes is an English professional rugby union player who plays for Northampton saints in the Aviva Premiership. He can play in the second or back row. He is 6 ft 7in high and has weight 115 kg. He was brought up near Northampton. Lawes came from Northampton Old Scouts, the same club that created his ex team mate Rob Milligans, Ben Cohen and Steve Thompson. Lawes has represented England at the U18 and U20 levels and earned his first senior cap in 2009.

He went on tour of Australia with England Under 18 in 2007 and made his debut against Esher in National One. He missed the 2008 Under 20 Six Nations due to injury but appeared in the IRB Junior World Championship. He appeared in the Guinness Premiership, the EDF Energy Trophy and the European Challenge Cup in the next year and was declared man of the match in the home game against Montpellier. He was a member of the England Under 20 team reaching the final of the JWC in 2009. He earned his England cap on 7 November against Australia at Twickenham.
