Rugby Overview of England Lock Ed Slater

Edward Slater is a rugby union player of England who plays for Leicester Tigers. Due to his speed and physical strength, he was reviewed at second row at Leicester Tigers which resulted in calls to England Saxons and senior England squad’s trip to Argentina. He started his rugby at Milton Rugby Club before going to Australia. He got noticed himself at Eastern Suburbs RUFC, Sydney, NSW. He began to improve here playing Under 21’s level which resulted in his 1st grade rugby for “The Beasties”. He also played with the NSW Waratahs for short time where he was given a junior contract. 


After passing a short time at Leicester Tigers he moved to Nottingham, where he played along with current team fellow Tom Youngs. His show in the Championship playoff helped him to win a move to Leicester Tigers in 2010. He covered up successfully the injuries of Louis Deacon and Geoff Parling while Ben Kay and Richard Blaze retired which allowed Slater to start from first team squad. Slater consistently performed there by which he won Tigers’ Player of the Month award in 2010. He made over 30 appearances in first season. Slater won the Premiership winners medal in 2012/13 season and was also called up to senior England squad.
